Job Title: Accra (Africa) - VIE as Sales Manager Africa for Grove and Manitowoc Products
Thomas joined Manitowoc in 2008 in Ghana. He holds a Master’s degree in International Management and is graduated from Business School of Saint-Etienne, France. He speaks French, English and German.
As one of our Manitowoc VIE, could you tell us what are the VIE’s advantages?
Finding an internship abroad was not an easy task, especially without any contacts abroad. The VIE formula allowed me to have a job with responsibilities and discover a really atypical business environment. It’s an opportunity to develop an international career.
How do you live your VIE?
On-the-job training was essential. I had the opportunity to travel with my manager all over Africa, to meet customers, dealers as well as governmental representatives. I realized how important the diplomatic relations are for business development in this area. As a result of this training period, I sold my first crane in July, a Grove Rough Terrain 760.
What about your age, is it difficult to be young and hold this sales manager position?
Customers and dealers encourage and support young salesmen like my self as they remember when they started themselves. My age therefore becomes an advantage.
