Manitowoc’s EnCORE™ program revitalizes 17-year-old Grove crane in Turkey
- Manitowoc’s EnCORE™ partner in Turkey, Karun, restored the Grove GMK4100 all-terrain crane to near-new condition with OEM-approved parts and following strict EnCORE™ protocol.
- The GMK4100 belongs to Turkish steel producer İÇDAŞ, which will enjoy a second lease of life with the reliable workhorse.
- Following the success of the rebuild, Karun is expanding its EnCORE™ activities to support a wider range of Grove mobile cranes and Manitowoc crawler cranes.
Karun, the Turkish dealer and service partner for Grove mobile cranes and Manitowoc crawler cranes, has completed a comprehensive EnCORE™ refurbishment of a Grove GMK4100 all-terrain crane, extending the machine’s service life and restoring its performance to original engineering specifications.
The project was carried out at Karun’s dedicated EnCORE™-approved rebuild facility in Ankara for İÇDAŞ, a leading company in Turkey’s iron and steel industry. Using 100% Manitowoc-certified parts and following EnCORE™ standards, the overhaul will ensure reliability and long-term productivity for the crane.
Refurbishment started in May 2024 and covered a complete mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and structural rebuild. Specific tasks included full replacement of electrical harnesses and critical components. All hydraulic and pneumatic hoses were replaced to ensure smooth and reliable operation.
The boom was fully disassembled, including the telescopic cylinder and all five boom sections. Worn components were replaced and locking parts were inspected and updated. A new slewing bearing and a superstructure cab were installed, and major components, including planetary gears and hydraulic systems, were replaced. The crane also underwent a complete 1,000-hour maintenance service and was repainted with TÜV-certified decals. Upon completion, the crane underwent a comprehensive inspection program, including load and boom extension testing.
“This GMK4100 has been a dependable workhorse for İÇDAŞ for more than 17 years. Through the EnCORE™ program, we were able to give the crane a second life, ensuring it continues to deliver productive and reliable performance,” said Cihan Bektaş, after-sales manager at Karun.
Building on the success of this project, Karun is preparing its next EnCORE™ refurbishment, a Grove RT550E rough-terrain crane, and plans to expand EnCORE™ activities to additional Grove mobile cranes and Manitowoc crawler cranes.
“At Manitowoc, we take pride in seeing our cranes restored through EnCORE™ to the standards they were originally engineered to meet. Projects like this highlight the value of combining factory expertise with the capabilities of trusted local partners like Karun,” said Nate Pears, global EnCORE™ director, Manitowoc.
