Potain launches new China-built variable frequency hoists
Manitowoc has introduced two new variable frequency hoists
for Potain tower cranes manufactured at its factory in Zhangjiagang China. The hoists are the first frequency-controlled units to be fitted to the smaller range of cranes built at the company’s China factory. They will be sold to customers across Asia and in emerging markets.
The two hoists are the 40 LVF 15 and the 40 LVF 13 and are designed for Potain’s MC 125 and MCi 85 A tower cranes respectively. Each has a 30 kW (40 hp) power rating with the 40 LVF 15 offering lift speeds of up to 85 m per minute and the slightly smaller 40 LVF 13 reaching lift speeds of up to 81.5 m per minute.
As with all LVF frequency-controlled hoists the new models automatically optimize their speed to the weight of the load
on the hook maximizing efficiency on the job site.
Raymond Tang regional product manager for tower cranes at Manitowoc said these latest hoists will benefit crane users in emerging markets.
“Cranes manufactured in Zhangjiagang are sold across Asia Latin America Africa and the Middle East ” he said. “By introducing these new LVF hoists for the cranes we can offer customers in those markets improved lifting operations. Countries such as China India and Brazil have ambitious timetables for construction over the next few years so customers who can help projects progress more efficiently will have an advantage.”
The winch can be adjusted to power sources using either 50 Hz or 60 Hz protecting components and simplifying set up. It also allows it to function on a wider range of job sites or in locations where power supply is limited. Precision control is assured through close monitoring of motor speed brake status and wire rope release limit.
Designed with durability in mind the hoists feature large diameter components including splined motor shaft and splined sleeve. There is oil bath lubrication for the spline joint which reduces wear on the coupling and a new support structure for the drum that further prolongs its working life.
Raymond Tang said the new hoists offer best-in-class levels of performance.
“Many competitor frequency-controlled hoists for this class of crane which are built in China are rated around 22 kW (30 hp) so ours are over 30 percent stronger than that ” he said. “Plus they offer smooth speed change low current surge and quiet operation. In addition to the close control it offers operators
will really notice a difference when they’re using a new Potain
40 LVF winch.”
