Restoration begins at Rocca di Varano, Italy, with Potain Igo T 99 Self-Erecting Tower Crane

Restoration and redevelopment work has officially commenced at the historic Rocca di Varano in Camerino, a treasured landmark in Italy’s Marche Region. Spearheaded by the Municipality of Camerino and supported by the Marche Regional Government, the project aims to restore the fortress—closed since the 2016 earthquake—and reopen it for public use.

To support the year-long construction effort, Potaindistributor Gavarini Macchine has supplied a Potain Igo T 99 tower crane on rental to contractor COGEN Costruzioni Generali. The crane was selected for its compact footprint, versatility, and ability to handle loads of 1500 to 1900 kg at heights of 40 to 45 meters—ideal for the site's steep hillside terrain and limited access.

Reaching the site required navigating a narrow, 2-kilometer country path with soft soil, making logistics particularly complex. A self-propelled Gapo vehicle was essential for transporting and positioning the crane efficiently, avoiding significant delays due to restricted maneuvering space.

This initiative marks a vital step in preserving cultural heritage and restoring a symbol of resilience for the Camerino community.
