Successful open day at German Potain dealer GEBR. MAYER

  • Long-term Potain dealer GEBR. MAYER hosted a major open day event to give customers the opportunity to see the company's wide range of equipment first hand.
  • The event took place at company headquarters in Fürth central Germany from March 23-25 and welcomed 1 500 visitors.
  • Among the exhibits were six self-erecting cranes from Potain.

Wilhelm Lämmermann managing director of GEBR. MAYER said the Igo T 130 the largest Potain self-erecting crane was a particular highlight at the event.

“Customers are always impressed by the capabilities of the crane. After all it’s not every day that they see an 8 t capacity 50 m jib crane that can be transported on three trucks and be erected in takes just four hours. It proved a major attraction and talking point at the event.”

The other Potain self-erecting cranes on display at the open day included the best-selling Igo MC 13 Igo MA 21 Igo 32 Igo T 70 and HDT 80.

Established in 1924 GEBR. MAYER is one of Germany’s leading construction equipment distributors and represents many industry-leading equipment brands including Potain which the company has represented for more than 53 years.

In 1959 GEBR. MAYER sold its first Potain tower crane. Since then its partnership with Potain has grown and its market share has increased. To date the company has sold more than 2 000 Potain tower cranes.

It also operates a rental fleet of 100 cranes and more than 300 other construction equipment machines. The cranes include mobile top-slewing and self-erecting models – the latter being its best-selling line. The rental side of the business formed a central activity from an early stage but GEBR. MAYER also established strong sales options for both new and used equipment. This wide range of services soon established the company as a reliable partner for main contractors and lifting sub-contractors.

Gerd Haladuda sales manager for tower cranes in central Europe at Manitowoc attended the open house event in recognition of GEBR. MAYER’s impressive history in the business.

“Holding a successful partnership for more than 53 years is a fantastic achievement ” he said. “I congratulate everyone at GEBR. MAYER for their determination and commitment to service that has resulted in such longevity. Long may it continue.”

Mr Lämmermann said that GEBR. MAYER attributes its long-term success to the company's ability to adapt to the changing needs of the market.

“From the very beginning we knew our role as service provider meant we should offer customers different options ” he says. “We chose to partner with some of the world’s leading manufacturers to offer a wide range of high quality equipment. And we continually update our stock to ensure we provide the best equipment to the industry.”

Today GEBR. MAYER operates four subsidiaries and employs around 100 people that cover north Bavaria and parts of Saxony. Among its employees are a team of 11 crane mechanics who specialise in erecting tower cranes particularly in challenging locations. The company also has a range of truck-mounted cranes that offer more flexible transportation.
